The Ethics of Artificial intelligence and its implications on society

Once, A great scientist, Edwin Turney has given the hypothesis that when machines override human intelligence, it's an indication of a gloomy day. This hypothesis’s conclusion sparks my brain with so many questions, such as, What is intelligence? What are its implications? Why is it so dangerous? What are the benefits of AI? What are lacunae in Artificial intelligence? How can it be rectified? Will it be harmful to humans due to its overuse? Let’s try to find out ANSWERS TO all the questions.

Intelligence is the ability to judge well, understand well, and reason well. This is a rudimentary definition of intelligence. Artificial intelligence is the intelligence of machines, robots, or software through which machines acquire the ability to comprehend, understand, and provide analysis of various issues by processing their source data. As per Precedence Research, The estimated growth of Al is expected to hit around USD 1871.2 billion by 2032. That’s why it’s important to understand Artificial intelligence comprehensively. So that we are aware of its implications for our day-to-day lives. In Contemporary times, you may have used many artificial intelligence bots, consciously or subconsciously KNOWINGLY OR UNKNOWINGLY. For instance, Chat-GPT, PAI Chat bot, etc. However, Artificial intelligence has impacted various facets of life, such as socio-economics, environmental, corporate, administration, education, and health sectors, etc.

Artificial intelligence is bittersweet in nature. On the one hand, we can see that it has helped to grow in all facets of human life, such as in the corporate sector, education sector, environment sector, and health care sector. It’s deeply ingrained in human life. This technology makes things easier or provides information on the fingertip in the provided time period. On the other hand, Artificial intelligence is gender-insensitive, biased, and considered generalist in nature. it is important to adhere to social morality.

Firstly, It is very important to reduce gender insensitivity or gender bias in artificial intelligence. AI, backed by a colossal dataset through which they are adding input and contemplating data, consequently provides the desired outcome. But the source data (for instance, Google) contains a huge (unfathomable) number of websites. In which most website's languages are gender biased in nature. For instance, one particular website attached an AI bot to solve queries of their customers, and while solving the queries, it addressed the individual most probably with gender-specific pronouns such as he,him, and his (what was the outcome). Many academics and researchers predicted that the use of artificial intelligence would skyrocket in the near future. It is possible that every aspect of human life might be regulated by AIs, directly or indirectly. so that for scientists of an AI, its utmost priority is to rectify gender bias to make AI more inclusive and efficient.

Secondly, AI generates very jejune information that is dicey in nature. Sometimes, the nature of the generated data or information by AI is quite unauthenticated and less credible. It's the utmost responsibility of data engineers, data analysts, and an ethical team linked with particular AIs to provide a more credible and reliable source of data. The only way to fulfill the demand for AIs is to increase their wide usage, which means increasing the horizon of source data with depth in every aspect of life. For instance, if you’re scrolling through Instagram reels, have you thought about why, from person to person, the pattern of reels is different? They set up a typical type of artificial intelligence-based algorithm through which it analyzes a person’s mindset while watching a specific reel and how long he or she has been attached to that particular reel. All technical aspects are very well analyzed and processed. Consequently, it produces the desired result by showing a specific pattern of reel to a specific person to increase their dopamine, and they become addicted to it.

T
hirdly, the most miserable aspect of AI is that it generates biased opinions. But why? AI models are trained only on the language that source data contains, and source data contains most of the information in English. One study says that around 60% of the information in the source data is in English only. Furthermore, Source data contains more Christian data in proportion to other religious data, and it multiplies in all aspects such as race, caste, class, gender, and creed. It's the utmost responsibility of the ethical team to create a healthy equilibrium between all datasets to get an effective outcome.

Artificial intelligence has significantly impacted society. In society, many subsystems (which)  are working together, sometimes in complementary or contradictory ways, but it depends on the situation. AI has significantly impacted the political, social, economic, and environmental facets of a country.

Fourthly, In Politics nowadays, AI might help generate a decent manifesto for a particular society. Also, it helps to understand, identify, and analyze the political culture of a country, which consequently provides an evaluative aspect of the political life of a country. In contrast, through AI, the manipulation of the thoughts of voters is done by showing particular types of videos, information, and texts. For instance, the hatred between two communities was exaggerated by social media during election time.

Fifthly, In society, we might help the emancipation of weaker sections, women, and minorities by addressing their issues and providing viable solutions to them. In contrast, AI might increase social cleavages, manipulate individual's thought processes, and feed them with radical communalism. That’s why it might be dangerous for a society to deal with this concrete rule, and regulations should be made promptly. Recently, in the news, a headline came into the limelight related to making a statutory body to regulate AIs and their various types.

Sixthly, In academics, AI for researchers became a boon. From primary school students to College students and researchers, Al may help make their studies easy, less monotonous, and provide output in a few minutes. In contrast, overdependence on AI might lead to laziness and make students less confident. Also, sometimes the data generated by AIs is very vague and unreliable.

Artificial intelligence will help us enrich our lives and make them easier. However, every technology has its gloomy side. If we are able to rectify those gloomy sides with structural solutions, then it will perform outstandingly.
